GIF dimensions for platforms
The size each platform states for these uses, as published on its own pages on the date shown. Platforms change them, so the linked page has the final word. Pick a row and the resizer uses that size, with every frame, the timing and the looping kept.
Most of these sizes are maximums. The resizer shrinks a larger GIF to fit, keeping its proportions, and leaves a GIF that already fits exactly as it is, because enlarging it would only add bytes and blur. A row that says exactly is different: every GIF comes out exactly that size, fitted inside, enlarged if it is smaller, with the space around it filled.

What decides how a resized GIF looks
Three choices decide what a resized GIF looks like and how big its file is.
StretchedFitted and filled Keep proportions, stretch or fill
With the proportions kept, the GIF fits inside the width and height you give, so one side may come out shorter. Stretching makes it exactly that size and squashes or widens the picture. Filling keeps the proportions and still makes it exactly that size, filling the space around it with transparency or a colour.
For a square emoji or sticker, use Fill to exact size, so nothing is squashed.
SmoothPixel Smooth or pixel resampling
Smooth blends neighbouring pixels into each new one, which suits clips and photos but softens hard edges. Pixel copies the nearest pixel instead, so pixel art and outlines stay crisp and no new colours appear, while curves in a photo look stepped.
Choose Pixel for pixel art, sprites and text; Smooth for everything else.

A GIF stores long runs of one colour in very few bytes. Smooth resampling blends every edge into new in-between colours, so the frames hold more colours and fewer runs, and a flat animation can grow as a file even while its frames get smaller.
If the file has to stay small, use Pixel on flat artwork, or compress the GIF after resizing it.
Resizing changes the dimensions, not always the file size
Resizing sets how many pixels each frame has. It does not aim at a file size, and fewer pixels do not always make a smaller file: a flat cartoon resized with Smooth gains blended colours and can come out bigger than it was. When that happens, the row says so.
If the GIF has to fit under a platform's file-size limit, compress the GIF instead. It aims at the limit and makes the frames smaller only as far as it needs to.
For a photo or a still image, resize the image instead. This tool reads GIFs and keeps every frame of them, which a still does not need.
Most platform sizes are the most the platform allows, so a GIF already inside one is passed through untouched rather than enlarged or saved again. The same goes for a size the GIF already has. Its row says it was left as it was, and the download is your original file.
Limits worth knowing
- Reads GIF files, animated or still: up to 20 per batch and 250 MB in total.
- A GIF can have up to 1,000 frames, 4.2 megapixels per frame and 300 megapixels across all its frames, both before and after resizing, and no side longer than 65,535 px.
- Every frame is resized the same way, and the frame timing and the looping are kept exactly as they were.
- Transparency is kept, but a GIF pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque, so smoothed edges around transparent areas are cut to one or the other rather than fading out.
Resize GIF FAQ
Are my GIFs uploaded to a server?
No. Every GIF is read, resized and saved in your browser, and no file is uploaded, stored or sent anywhere. The page does fetch its own code as you go: the resizer's code when you add your first GIF, and the ZIP library the first time you download a ZIP. Your GIFs are never part of that.
How do I resize a GIF without losing the animation?
Add it here. Every frame is resized the same way, and the frame timing and the looping are kept exactly as they were: nothing is turned into a video or cut down to its first frame. Choose a percentage, a platform's size or your own width and height, then download the result.
How do I resize pixel art without blurring it?
Choose Pixel (sharp edges) under Resampling. Each new pixel then copies one pixel of the original instead of blending its neighbours, so hard edges stay hard and no new colours appear. It looks cleanest when the new size is a whole fraction or multiple of the old one, such as half or double.
How do I make a GIF square for an emoji?
Type the same width and height, leave Keep proportions on and switch on Fill to exact size. The GIF is fitted inside the square and the space around it is filled, transparent or with a colour you choose, so nothing is squashed. The Twitch emote size does this for you at 112 × 112 px. The Discord emoji size only shrinks a larger GIF to fit within 128 × 128 px, the most Discord states, so a wide GIF stays wide.
Why is the resized GIF bigger than the original?
Smooth resampling blends neighbouring pixels into new colours, and a GIF stores many colours and fine changes less compactly than flat areas, so a smaller GIF can be a bigger file. Flat cartoons and pixel art are the most affected. Try Pixel resampling for those, or compress the GIF to the size you need after resizing it.
Why was my GIF not resized?
Most sizes in the table are the most the platform allows, so a GIF that is already inside one is left as it is: enlarging it would only add bytes and blur. The same happens when you type the size the GIF already has. Its row says so, and the download is your original file. Only a row that says exactly makes every GIF that size, enlarging a smaller one.
