Trim and join videos, in your browser
Cut the stretch of a clip you need, or join several clips into one MP4. Keyframe cuts are fast and lossless; exact cuts are re-encoded. The videos are processed on your own device and never uploaded.

How to trim and join a video
Add your clips
Drop in one clip to trim it, or up to 10 clips of up to 4 GB each to join them. Each clip becomes a part. Choose where the video is going, in the tool or in the table below, and a meter shows the length that destination states.
Set each part
Select a part, then type its start and end or set them at the preview's playhead. Move parts up or down to change the order, and duplicate a part to take two stretches from one clip.
Export and download the MP4
Choose keyframe cuts or exact cuts and read what will happen, then press Export. When the MP4 is done it is read again, so the length and the check you see are the new file's own.
Video length limits by destination
The length each destination covered here states for an uploaded video, read from its own pages, with stated limits and recommendations marked apart. The tool measures the total length of your parts against them, but it never cuts anything for you. Use a row to set that destination in the tool.

Keyframe cuts, exact cuts and joins
Where a part can start, and whether the video has to be re-encoded, depends on how the video is stored. Three ideas explain what the tool does.
The start you setStarts at the keyframe A copy starts on a keyframe
A video stores a full picture only now and then, at a keyframe; the frames in between hold only what changed. A part that is copied has to start on a keyframe, so a keyframe cut starts at the nearest one at or before the time you set, and the plan and the part say where.
Keyframe cuts suit trimming the ends of a clip, where starting a moment early does not matter.
Keyframe cutExact cut An exact cut is re-encoded
An exact cut starts and ends on the frames you chose. To do that, the video is decoded and encoded again as H.264, which takes longer than a copy and changes the picture slightly.
Choose exact cuts when the first frame has to be the right one, such as a cut on a movement.
Same size: copiedOther shape: bars Clips that differ are fitted
Clips recorded with the same video settings, at the same size and turned the same way, are joined by copying. When they differ, the join is re-encoded at the first part's size, and a clip of another shape gets black bars. The frame rate is the first part's, rounded to a standard rate from 24 to 60 fps.
Put the clip whose shape you want first: the other parts are fitted to it.
Cutting a product video down to what a listing needs
Listing videos are short. Etsy, for example, states a length of 3 s to 15 s. Choose the destination, and the meter reads the total length of your parts against what it states. Nothing is cut or stretched for you: you decide what stays.
To keep two moments of one clip and leave out what is between them, duplicate its part and give each copy its own start and end. Parts from different clips can go in any order, and the export plays them from top to bottom.
A shorter video is a smaller file, but trimming does not aim at a size. If the export is still over the destination's size limit, compress it next.
A join keeps the first part's shape. If the destination wants a vertical or square video, reframe the joined MP4 afterwards.
Limits worth knowing
- Reads MP4, MOV, and M4V. Also reads WebM and MKV where the browser can decode the video inside. HEVC (H.265) video can be edited in Chrome, Edge and Safari, where the device can decode it. The export is always an MP4 with H.264 video and, when it has sound, AAC sound.
- Up to 10 clips of up to 4 GB each, in up to 20 parts. A re-encoded export can be up to 10 min long, any export can be up to 1 GB, and a re-encoded picture is at most 1920 px on its longer side.
- Keyframe cuts of matching H.264 clips copy the video, so they work even in a browser that cannot re-encode video. Exact cuts, joins of clips that differ, and any clip that is not H.264 are re-encoded, which needs Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on a computer.
- A keyframe cut can start earlier than the time you set, by up to the gap between two keyframes; the plan shows where each part really starts before you export.
Trim and join video FAQ
Are my videos uploaded to a server?
No. Your clips are read, cut, joined and saved in your browser, and they are never uploaded, stored or sent anywhere. The page does fetch its own code as you go: the video engine loads when you add your first clip. Your videos are never part of that.
Can I cut a video without re-encoding it?
Yes. With keyframe cuts, an H.264 video is copied into the MP4 as it is, which is quick and leaves the picture unchanged. Each part then starts at the nearest keyframe at or before the start you set. Clips that are not H.264, such as HEVC (H.265), are always re-encoded to H.264.
Why does my part start a little before the time I set?
A copied part has to start on a keyframe, a frame the video stores as a full picture. With keyframe cuts, the part starts at the nearest keyframe at or before your start, and both the plan and the part say where it really starts. To start on the exact frame, choose exact cuts: the video is then re-encoded.
Can I join clips of different sizes or from different phones?
Yes. Clips recorded with the same settings, at the same size and turned the same way, are joined by copying. When they differ, the tool says so before the export and re-encodes the join at the first part's size and frame rate; a clip of another shape is fitted with black bars. Put the clip whose shape you want first.
How do I cut out the middle of a clip?
Duplicate the clip's part, then set the first copy to end where the unwanted stretch begins and the second copy to start where it ends. The export joins the two parts, so everything between them is left out.
How long can an Etsy listing video be?
Etsy states a listing video of 3 s to 15 s, and recommends at least 5 s. Choose Etsy in the tool or in the table above, and the meter reads the total length of your parts against both. The tool never cuts the video to fit: you set each part. Etsy says listing videos have no sound once uploaded, so the sound is removed as well.
What happens to the sound?
The sound follows the parts. It is copied when the clips' sound matches, and re-encoded as AAC when it differs; a browser that cannot encode AAC leaves it out and says why. You can remove it under More settings, and it is removed where the destination says listing videos have no sound. The plan says what happens to it before the export, and the result says it again.
Why can't this browser trim my iPhone video?
Many iPhone videos are HEVC (H.265), which is always re-encoded to H.264 here, and some browsers cannot decode HEVC. Chrome, Edge and Safari can on most devices. When a browser cannot, the tool says so and still shows the clip's facts and the destination check.
