Selling on a marketplace? Most discourage or forbid marks on listing photos.

What each marketplace says

Use these copies as previews, not as listing photos. That's our own guidance: no Etsy page addresses watermarks on previews.

How to watermark preview images

  1. Set the mark

Type your mark text or choose a logo, then pick where it goes, its size, opacity and colour. The preview shows the mark on your first image.

  2. Add your preview images

Drop in up to 20 images: proofs, sample pages, drafts or mockups. Each one is marked in your browser as soon as it's added.

  3. Download the copies

Download each marked copy, or all of them as one ZIP. Change a setting and the bar offers to make the copies again.

What the preview watermark is for

Before you hand over the finished work, you often show a copy of it: a proof or draft sent to a client, a sample page, a social post or a page on your own site. A visible mark shows that the copy is a preview. This tool puts the same mark on a batch of images at once and leaves your original files as they are.

It isn't meant for marketplace listing photos. Etsy generally wouldn't recommend watermarks on them, and eBay, Google and Amazon don't allow them on some or all product images. The notice beside the export lists what each one states, and with Etsy chosen as the destination it adds what Etsy suggests instead.

The mark is your text, your logo or both, placed in the centre, in the bottom-right corner or tiled across the image at an angle. Its size follows the image's short side, so it looks the same on a portrait and a landscape image.

A preview doesn't need every pixel of the original. By default each copy is made at 2000 px on its long side, and a smaller image is never enlarged. For the full-size files a buyer downloads, use the print size pack.

Limits

  • Accepted: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF. HEIC, TIFF too, read more slowly where your browser can't open them itself.
  • Up to 20 images at a time, each up to 100 MB.
  • Copies are made at up to 4096 × 4096 px. An Original larger than that is scaled down to fit, and its row says so.
  • The mark text is drawn in this site's typeface, which your browser downloads the first time a mark needs it.
  • The copies are for previews, not listing photos: the notice beside the export lists what Etsy, eBay, Google and Amazon state.

Preview watermark FAQ

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Your images and your logo are read, marked and saved in your browser, and they are never uploaded, stored or sent anywhere.

Where can I use the marked copies?

Wherever you show a preview rather than the finished file: proofs and drafts sent to a client, sample pages, social posts and your own site. A visible mark shows the image is a preview. That's our own guidance; if you sell on a marketplace, keep the mark off your listing photos.

Can I use the marked images as listing photos?

We don't suggest it. Etsy generally wouldn't recommend watermarks on listing photos, and eBay, Google and Amazon don't allow them on some or all product images. The notice beside the export lists each rule, where it applies and its source.

What size are the copies?

2000 px on the long side by default, or the original size, or one of the other sizes offered. An image is never enlarged, and no copy is larger than 4096 × 4096 px.

Can I use my logo?

Yes: a PNG, JPEG or WebP logo, on its own or beside your text. SVG logos aren't accepted. A logo with a transparent background sits best on an image.

Why does the mark text need a download?

The mark text is drawn in this site's typeface, which your browser downloads the first time a mark needs it. If it can't be downloaded, the tool says so rather than drawing the mark in another typeface.

How are the copies named?

After your file, with -preview added: a JPEG copy of art.png is art-preview.jpg. Download them one at a time, or all together as one ZIP.
